Day 13: Blessed are the merciful

TERUG

Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.

God is merciful. In Exodus 34:6 God proclaims himself, among other things, as merciful and gracious. One of the reasons Jesus calls upon us to be merciful is to be like God. The opposite of mercy is judgement.  Being judgmental means being unmerciful (or without mercy). Mercy exists for the sake of the forgiveness of sins. Only by forgiving the sins of others do we show that God is indeed our Father. Only by being like God do we gain God’s mercy. Let us lay down judgements and unloving thoughts. Only by embracing an attitude of mercy towards others do we find mercy for ourselves.
