Worship is the individual’s response in his or her spirit to the only true God. Yet, this reaction or experience occurs more often when individuals meet in a common environment. We are talking about a “worship service” and in a sense that should be our reason for going to church.
I love Hosea 14: 3: “… then we will offer our lips as offerings” (1953-Afrikaans Translation). Instead of a sacrificial animal, we bring our lips as the ‘sacrificial animal’ (the original Hebrew speaks of “… the calves of our lips”). When people gather in a worship service, we can expect a variety of attitudes, because it is not worshipers who gather, but people who must be led into worship. The attitude of making an offering can create an awareness of God, and it will fuel the expression of corporate worship.
